The 4-song debut by the Buzzcocks was released on 29 January 1977.
Produced by Martin Hannett, the recording session took 3 hours, another 2 for mixing, and without a record deal, the band released the EP on their own label and quickly sold out of the initial pressing of 1,000 copies. It went on to sell 16,000 in the UK.
Co-founder and co-writer (and lead singer) Howard Devoto left the group shortly after the release, saying “what was once unhealthily fresh is now a clean old hat.“
